EXCERPTS >|< Fantasmagorie (1908)

A series of gif excerpted from Fantasmagorie (1908), a French animated film directed by Emile Cohl and considered by film historians to be the first animated cartoon.
The film was created by drawing each frame on paper and then shooting each frame onto negative film, which gave the picture a blackboard look.

The film, in all of its transformations, is a tribute to the by-then forgotten Incoherent artistic movement. The title is a reference to the “fantasmograph”, a mid-Nineteenth Century variant of the magic lantern that projected ghostly images that floated across the walls.

Una serie di gif estratte da Fantasmagorie (1908), un film di animazione francese diretto da Emile Cohl e considerato dagli storici del cinema il primo cartone animato della storia.

Il film è stato creato disegnando a mano ogni singolo frame su carta, quindi ripreso in negativo per dare l’idea di un disegno fatto alla lavagna.

Il cartone animato è una serie continua di trasformazioni in omaggio al dimenticato movimento artistico degli Incoerenti, mentre il titolo richiama il ‘fantasmograph’, una variante di metà Ottocento della lanterna magica con cui si proiettavano immagini che si muovevano sulle pareti.
